The National bank of Slovakia is an independent central bank of the Slovak Republic established on 1 January 1993. On 1 January 2009, after the adoption of the Euro, it became a part of the Euro system. The main objective of the National bank of Slovakia is to maintain the price stability. As the central bank of the Slovak Republic, it supervises the financial market, contributes to the common monetary policy for the Eurozone, issues Euro banknotes and coins and, within the financial market, contributes to the stability of the financial system as a whole.
