RailNetEurope (RNE) is an association of European Rail Infrastructure Managers. Serving as an umbrella organization in coordinating international processes of its members. RNE´s mission is to assist and guide its members through the challenges of the rapidly changing Rail Sector in Europe and promote international rail transport interoperability.
RNE was actively looking for a suitable IT Partner which would be able to meet their needs. They approached our company directly after choosing us from the list of Microsoft partners. The RNE management was interested in the reimplementation of their old system and migration of data from the original solution into the Microsoft SharePoint Online Platform, which we have robust experience with.
RNE used a CMS system named Drupal 7 for communication, sharing documents, setting up meetings, and organizing joint work. Since Drupal 7 was about to terminate its support services, the company started to look for a solution that could replace the original system. One of the main requirements for the new system was to contain all features and options of Drupal 7 and was divided into the same units and entities.
Our team proposed the best ways and options for the new solution implementation and data migration from Drupal 7 and accommodation of the new software for both internal and external use.
Besides, our team recommended using most options, functions, and available tools provided by Microsoft 365. The customer agreed, thanks to which their employees have gained a new modern environment for everyday work and collaboration. However, the change has required adjustments to some workflows, the way of using the application, and the mindset of its users.
The delivered application has connected a multitude of RNEs users across Europe and streamlined the workflow by providing simple accessibility, traceability, and security of stored data. System workflows have speeded up the processing of documents from digitization, through comments, to approval. Teamwork and communication with external subjects have been simplified by easy document sharing. The app can be used across the entire organization, e.g., the project department, sales department, quality department, audit, and wherever the up-to-date data are needed.
It´s interesting that during the pandemic we agreed on all important things with the customer online via Microsoft Teams meetings. Today, when restrictions have loosened up, we could meet in person. However, our online communication was set up so flawlessly, that the customer has written their thank-you note directly into the project book in Microsoft Teams, where all collaboration took place. It has been proven that despite all obstacles brought into the business world by the pandemic, professional relationships can be maintained also using modern communication platforms.
