BU Manager Michal: Thanks to the Connection of the Millennium and Soitron Teams, We Are More Flexible and Complement Each Other

Millennium and Soitron closely collaborate together. Some time ago, Michal joined us from Soitron, and thanks to him, two separate teams that previously operated independently have joined into one. Together, they help clients implement and digitalize their processes, as well as transform data. In this interview, Michal shared insights about what his department focuses on, how they approach challenges, and what led him to his journey into IT.

Michal works as the Business Unit Manager of the newly established Modern Workplace team at Millennium, where he manages a team of skilled developers and consultants.

You have recently become a part of our Millennium team. You joined us from the partner company Soitron. You lead the Modern Workplace team, which focuses on implementing and optimizing business processes. What does this name entail, and what is under your management?

I was with Soitron for about seven years, and for the last year and a half, I held the position of team leader of BU Infrastructure. Besides traditional infrastructure services, we also dealt with data integrations, Microsoft 365 products such as MS SharePoint Online and MS Teams, and their related functionalities. When the proposal came to connect this team within the Soitron Group with the Millennium team, which focuses on MS Power Platform, I decided to support the idea. Mainly from a business perspective, it made sense for us since now, as one team, we help companies implement and digitalize their processes. Often, this literally involves transitioning from paper to digital forms or moving from Excel spreadsheets to more sophisticated solutions. We see how digital transformation drives companies forward and brings them many benefits. Besides the aforementioned PowerApps applications, our team also focuses on M365 and Power Platform environment analyses and custom recommendations for settings and usage of these services, known as governance. We also carry out data migrations from on-premise to cloud environments (e.g., from local file servers to SharePoint Online) and cloud-to-cloud migrations (e.g., from Dropbox to SharePoint Online).

And why this name? We were inspired by the Microsoft world, where this term is used to denote modern and efficient teamwork.

What are your further visions? What would you like to achieve with the team?

PowerApps applications in its portfolio, mainly for recording and approving, for example, holidays, orders, invoices, directives, as well as for controlled documentation purposes, or managing equipment or technical equipment and access requests in companies. Several applications are also used internally in Millennium, such as for parking reservations, company car loans, or for recording and approving employee attendance. In these cases, these are relatively simple applications that a customer can deploy in a few weeks. Of course, we also deliver custom-developed applications, whose development is more complex. The delivery and deployment take more time. Currently, our main technology is Microsoft, but we are considering expanding our portfolio to include other technologies in the future. We are monitoring the latest trends and want to respond to them.

You are connecting the worlds of Millennium and Soitron. What are the advantages of this?

Soitron Group, we try to connect as much as possible with partner companies. Since I know the Soitron environment and understand how other departments operate, it is much easier to involve the Millennium team in processes and collaboration. We visit clients together and present comprehensive solutions that can put them far ahead of the competition in a relatively short time. At the same time, we closely cooperate with other BU teams in Millennium, such as Data Intelligence and Customer Engagement, since all teams also focus on Power Platform solutions. I perceive that thanks to these synergies, we are more flexible, stronger, and can complement each other.

How do you approach challenges? Do you have any recipe for handling new things?

For me, it is important not to be afraid of new challenges. In the first step, I break down what the challenge involves. Simply, I break it into smaller parts. Then I consider what I can gain out of it and, on the other hand, what I can lose. If the positives outweigh the negatives, I go for it. Of course, motivation plays a big role in this as well. However, when it comes to team decision-making, I try to discuss the topics with colleagues and explain what new opportunities can bring us, and I assure them that I will always help them and stand by them.

Where do you find IT inspiration? What is your attitude toward learning alongside work?

I like listening to various podcasts, including technology ones. I’m also a fan of the Soitron podcast “Local Host.” Besides that, I enjoy podcasts and lectures focused on self-development. Some time ago, I also took a coaching course that helps me not only in decision-making but also in team management. I perceive how important it is to develop managerial and technical skills. I support education in the form of certifications – I regularly renew my Microsoft certifications. The same applies for the team. Throughout the year, all team members will maintain their technical certifications and also acquire new certifications. Alongside this, our team also engages in self-study from publicly available sources. This way, we maintain expertise and stay up-to-date with new trends in the team. Besides technical certifications, I would like my colleagues to also attend soft skills trainings, which are important in both work and private life.

What was your path to IT?

When I was nine or ten years old, I played computer games that opened the door to IT for me. A few years later, I started attending an eight-year high school focused on programming and algorithms. Paradoxically, I did not continue on this path. For some time, I studied geology. After a short break, I was drawn back to IT. I externally studied at a university focused on programming and algorithms while working. At that time, I was already working for several IT companies. Today, it has been almost 18 years since I have been in IT, and I do not regret it at all. However, I have one dream that is not related to IT. In the future, maybe in retirement, I would like to open a small café where I can “relax.” Of course, as an IT person, I would like to use modern technologies, such as AI, in it. Retirement is still far away, so we’ll see what the future brings. 😊
